Inspiration! “the infusion of an animating, quickening or exalting influence.”
Random House College Dictionary Revised Edition

Now, that's quite a statement!  Helen's inspirations vary: an event – a blue grass song -- the glimpse of a beautiful flower – a spider web.  It is interesting that often Helen turns these sights or sounds into a poetic observation -- Haiku.

On a winter morning early this year, Helen was in her Studio preparing to start a new painting.  Glancing out the window to the view of the distant mountains she so enjoys, she noticed that they were shrouded in a light fog – misty looking. A rare view in San Diego.  It inspired her to write:

dawn

five shades of mist

                  to the far mountain

Returning to her easel, influenced by the mist, the dark skies and her haiku, Helen allowed her soul to guide her brushes – and she produced Life Force, a painting in black, white and grays.

There are no mountains in this abstract; however, if you look closely you will find a few words of her haiku tucked carefully into the painting. Truly, her misty mountains are there.
